We were recently contacted to assess a large, protected copper beech tree that had begun showing signs of stress and fungal decay. After a detailed inspection, our team identified the presence of Ganoderma and Kretzschmaria deusta — two serious and incurable fungal pathogens known to cause root and butt rot in mature deciduous trees.
Because the tree was protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), we managed the full process of liaising with the local council and submitting an application for removal. As part of the assessment, we carried out a Resistograph® test, which confirmed extensive internal decay and loss of structural integrity. Permission to remove the tree was granted shortly after.
Due to the tree’s close proximity to a garage and nearby structures, the felling was carried out using advanced lowering and rigging techniques to ensure complete safety and control throughout. Once the removal was complete, the site was fully cleared and left clean and tidy, ready for replanting in the future.
